My copy of "The Hitchiker's Guide to Europe" mentioned that house: seems there was some Fauntleroy with more money than taste who though it'd be clever to build his coachman a house as wide as his own front door. His coachman had remarked "Oh, if only I could be so lucky as to have a house as wide as my master's door."
